In June of 2014, the UNI School of Music hosted the Midwest International Piano Competition.
The junior division winner of the 2014 Midwest International Piano Competition was Mayuki Miyashita.
Mayuki was born in Japan and now lives with her parents and brother in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Mayuki has performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 12 with the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Maryville College Orchestra.
She has also won 2nd prize in New York’s 2013 Kaufman Music Center International Youth Piano Competition and 3rd place in Hartford’s 2014 Chopin International Piano Competition.
Mayuki was in Cedar Falls and dropped by Iowa Public Radio’s Studio One to tell us about her career and also perform Hiromi Uehara’s work, The Tom and Jerry Show.
UNI’s Midwest International Piano Competition Artistic Co-Director, Dr. Dmitri Vorobiev, tagged along with Mayuki Miyashita when she came to perform at Iowa Public Radio’s Studio One.
Dmitri, an accomplished concert pianist himself and UNI’s associate professor of piano, talked about UNI’s June 6-11, 2016 Midwest International Piano Competition and how impressed the 2014 judges and audience members were with Mayuki Miyashita’s exceptional musicianship and maturity as a performer.
